Motorcycle racing stars and celebrities were some of the 410 people who attended the inaugural David Jefferies Memorial Dinner awards and fundraising event on the evening of Friday, October 26, 2007..
World Superbikes star James Toseland, British Superbike racers Cal Crutchlow and Michael Rutter, Virgin Yamaha team boss Rob McElnea and Isle of Man TT star John McGuiness were among the big names supporting the evening.
The David Jefferies Memorial Dinner was hosted by TV celebrity Vernon Kay and Tony Jefferies, father of the late road racing legend David Jefferies who died in 2003 aged 30.
The Memorial Fund is a registered charity, whose aims are to regularly provide income to other charities which are connected to motorcycle sport and to children. Motorcycle sport was his life and his affinity and natural manner with children was a joy to experience.
During the evening a cheque for £10,000 was donated to Tommy's - the baby charity. The cheque was received gratefully by Diane Appleyard, family friend of the Jefferies family, and also a long standing member of the Yorkshire Branch of Tommy's.
During the presentation a DVD, generously produced by Tommy's in Yorkshire very own webmaster Stuart Senior, was played on 8 screens around the room. This was to raise awareness about Tommy's, our work and how much valuable donations such as the one received can help. See the video here
A huge thanks go to The Jefferies Family for their kind donation in memory of their son, David. It is a truly fantastic sum of money for the charity to receive, and we are so very, very grateful to them.
